Learning Strategies

Micro Learning/
Learning Snacks

Microlearning teaches only the smallest learning elements in mini steps. A learning unit usually lasts between two and five minutes, and at the end there is a clear and defined learning objective. Microlearning is used in both formal and informal learning environments. The Rich-Media-Format encourages learners to actively use the tool, and microlearning is also compatible with other tools.

Gamification

E-learning courses usually take place parallel to regular work. The challenge therefore is often to motivate the participants throughout the course. Gamification, or the transfer of game elements into a non-game context, can help. As the hundreds of thousands of visitors to Gamescom in Cologne have shown, users of all ages and genders are enthusiastic about imaginative game worlds.

Video-Based Learning

The use of videos for learning purposes is common practice. Their popularity is also increasing due to the wider use of mobile learning and microlearning. Videos create an engaging and expansive learning experience with high commitment and memory:

• 59% of managers prefer a video if both text and video on the same topic are available on the same page (Digital Information World)..
• The viewer retains 95% of a message viewed in a video, compared to 10% when reading it in a text (WireBuzz).

Storytelling

Build excitement, generate certain feelings and thus convey learning content more effectively: With storytelling, participants have more fun with E-learning courses and facts are conveyed better. Stories can be memorized much more easily because they arouse emotions. You know it for certain: you remember events that triggered certain emotions better than those that left you cold. Suspense also keeps learners glued to the screen. This way, you avoid creating boring E-learning courses and thereby increase learning success.

Augmented/Virtual Reality

Off the beaten path, augmented and virtual reality can also be found among contemporary didactic models. Even older approaches do justice to the use of AR and VR: for instance active and problem oriented learning according to Dewey, or the idea of experience-based learning according to Kolb. The focus is on the learner, encouraging them to actively take their learning into their own hands. You learn a lot more from your own experiences and emotions than from the traditional idea of "being taught". As Albert Einstein once said: “Learning is experience. Everything else is just information."
